Mobile Solution for Emergency Medicine The main priorities of emergency medicine are to rescue lives and to limit as much as possible the damage to life and limb of the patient. The objective of MEDEA is the establishment and optimization of the information stream between the accident scene and the receiving hospital, and a quality enhancement in emergency medicine through wireless wearable computing. |
| Challenges
The emergency physician, employing an emergency rescue vehicle (ERV) or an emergency rescue helicopter (ERH), analyzes the situation at the accident scene, chooses the appropriate first aid methods as well as the follow-on medical techniques at the hospital. The required by law emergency accident protocol is usually completed by hand and after the patient has been transferred to the emergency room. This makes an optimal preparation for the reception of the injured person impossible and delays the necessary therapeutic measures. It is a challenge for the emergency physician to follow the legal obligation for protocolling all relevant medical events and keep the quality of care of the patient at the highest possible level. Solution
The emergency services call centre informs the emergency medical team at the accident site of the best available hospital and forwards the accident victim’s relevant medical data to the respective emergency room. Thus, during the transport, the necessary resources – operating room, medical equipment, surgical teams – can be allocated. A standardized open interface (XML, HL7) offers the possibility of communicating with the existing clinical systems. Key MEDEA features In collaboration with the

| MEDEA is to be realized through the development of an emergency-relevant, mobile and standardized protocolling of all medical relevant events. This includes all clinically vital parameters that vary from the norm at the scene of the accident as well as during the transport to the emergency room. | |
